Private Industry Council of Westmoreland/Fayette Inc. Announces A Promotion

October 24, 2018

The Private Industry Council of Westmoreland/Fayette, Inc. has announced a promotion.

Shujuane (Brown) Martin of Mt. Pleasant (formerly of West Mifflin) has been named Senior Vice President of Early Childhood.

Shujuane began her tenure at the Private Industry Council of Westmoreland/Fayette, Inc. [PIC] in 2003 working in our welfare-to-work programs as a Case Management Specialist. In 2005, she moved up to the position of Program Coordinator and promoted again in 2008 as Project Supervisor. In this program, she has worked with over 4,000 low-income families with eliminating barriers to achieve financial self-sufficiency. Shujuane has also, supervised our 2009 ARRA funded Homeless Prevention and Rapid Re-housing program which served over 300+ families on the verge of homelessness. In this program, families were assisted with financial rental and utility assistance and with finding employment for continued stability. In 2012, Shujuane was promoted to Director of the Head Start/Early Head Start/PA Pre-K Counts programs in the Early Childhood Development division of PIC. Having been successful in the implementation of those programs, in 2017 Shujuane was promoted to Vice President of Early Childhood and is now being promoted to Senior Vice President of Early Childhood. In this role, Shujuane will be responsible for overseeing the implementation of the Beaver County Head Start/Early Head Start, Fayette County Head Start/Early Head Start and PA Pre-K Counts programs administered by the organization. She will also manage the organizations technology department.

Prior to her employment with PIC, Shujuane was a Women’s Basketball coach for the California Area School District.

Originally from West Mifflin, PA, Shujuane is a two-time graduate from California University of Pennsylvania with a Master of Science and a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. While at California University, Shujuane was a standout Women’s Basketball player during her undergraduate years and a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. In 2013, she was awarded the Jennie A. Carter award for being a local outstanding community member.

Shujuane was a Head Start child and attributes her success and ambition to her involvement in the Head Start program. In wanting the same success for her children, she was also a previous PA Pre-K Counts parent.

Shujuane believes, “It takes the people within the community to build the community.” From Pittsburgh to California to Morgantown, West Virginia, Shujuane has always been very active in supporting initiatives that strengthen our communities. She has volunteered and supported programs such as: Breast Cancer Awareness, March of Dimes, Special Olympics,  Relay for Life, Big Brothers/Big Sister’s ‘Lunch Buddy Program,’ food bank drives, Alzheimer’s Awareness, Women’s Health Care Awareness, and  Domestic Violence Awareness. She is currently an active board member of the following community agencies: Westmoreland County Food bank, Fayette County Drug & Alcohol Commission, and the Imagination Library.

PIC is a nonprofit organization dedicated to building tomorrow’s workforce in southwestern Pennsylvania. Founded in 1983, it administers over two dozen programs in three divisions: Early Childhood Development, Education, and Workforce Development. PIC is the Title 1 operating partner of the Alle-Kiski, Fayette, and Westmoreland PA CareerLink® centers; operates a private licensed school, the Education and Technology Institute; and is the grantee of the Head Start/Early Head Start of Fayette County and Head Start of Beaver County.
