PIC to Offer Senior iPhone Classes

September 30, 2019

The Private Industry Council of Westmoreland/Fayette, Inc. (PIC) is working to help those within the community better understand how to use their iPhones and iPads with a new program designed for seniors. This 2 hour class will walk participants through the basic usage and functions of iOS devices as well as how to use specific applications.

The class is designed to not only show the participants step by step how to use their devices but will also allow for one-on-one instruction if needed. The program will include a basic overview of the devices and its functions including phone calls, text messaging, FaceTime, the camera and Siri. The participants will also receive practice using various applications such as Facebook, Uber, InstaCart and Solitaire.

“By providing seniors with the ability to utilize 21st century technology and devices we are able to help to improve their capabilities and connect them with services that may have been previously out of their reach,” says Collin Beattie, Instructional Technology Supervisor for PIC and Instructor for the iPhone/iPad classes. “We are able to help seniors keep their independence by teaching them how to order an Uber or Lyft to get to appointments as well as shop online including grocery delivery.”

The iPhone/iPad class will be offered 4 times this fall at the West Newton Center for Active Adults located at 103 E Main Street, West Newton, PA 15089. The first class will be held on Thursday October 3rd from 10 AM – 12 PM with additional classes being held on October 10th, October 17th and November 1st.

For more information about this program and to register, please contact Paul Kurzdorfer at the West Newton Center for Active Adults at 724-872-4976.
