Will your child be ready for kindergarten? Why not give your child a Head Start? Beaver County Head Start/Early Head Start, a program of the Private Industry Council of Westmoreland/Fayette, Inc., is currently accepting applications at all centers for the 2019-2020 school year. Head Start/Early Head Start is a Federal program for preschool children from low-income families that promote school readiness by enhancing their cognitive, social and emotional development. Children who attend Head Start/Early Head Start participate in a variety of educational activities that support children’s growth in language, literacy, mathematics, science, creative arts, and physical skills. Program services include nutritional meals, access to medical and dental health services as well as mental health and disabilities services. Family development services include parent involvement, goal setting and case management.
Beaver County Head Start/Early Head Start has 17 centers throughout Beaver County which operate Monday through Friday and partner with 4 Child Care Partners. If your child is not quite ready for a full day program, why not give one of our Home Based classrooms a try? We currently have home based instructors that will come to your home and visit with your child for one on one instruction for an hour and a half once a week. Do you feel as though home based services will not offer your child socialization with other children? Worry no more! All children enrolled in home based services and their families are invited to attend socialization groups that meet once a month at a designated location. These socialization groups offer your child the opportunity to play and learn with the other children who are also receiving home based services so that they are able to socialize with other children their age.
Early Head Start services children from birth to age 3 while Head Start services children ages 3 to 5. To enroll in Head Start for the upcoming program year, children must be 3 years old by August 31, 2019. To be eligible for a Head Start or Early Head Start program the child must reside in Beaver County and the family must meet income guidelines established by the Federal government. Parents need to bring the following items to apply for their child: a copy of the child’s birth certificate and proof of household income from all sources for the past 12 months.
Services are at no cost to the family for all enrolled children. For more information, to locate the center in your area, or to schedule an appointment, please call the Head Start Administrative Office at 724-728-2110.
