7th Annual Parent Training Event 2018-2019

June 12, 2019

Sixty-three attendees gathered at the Doubletree Hotel on May 6th for the 7th Annual Parent Training Event. This event was hosted in collaboration with area agencies that included the Private Industry Council of Westmoreland/Fayette, Inc., Head Start/Early Head Start of Fayette County, Head Start of Beaver County, Pennsylvania Pre-K Counts, Early Head Start Childcare Partnership and Blueprints. The theme of the event was focused on the topic of “Connections.” The Connections event featured two speakers: Chotta Watson from Fayette County Community Action and Bobbie Shults from Early Learning Resource Center (ELRC) 4 who spoke on the topics of Connecting to Housing and Connecting to ELRC.

The workshops at the event were centered on how parents/guardians and families can make connections with their peers and the community that are supportive and/or educational that can enhance a family’s social well-being and community life.  The workshops were successful in getting attendees excited about making positive life changes as well as providing them guidance on how to navigate support systems while in crisis. Attendees also shared their experiences and skills in hopes of fostering positive peer connections. Many walked away with new skills they can utilize throughout their lifetime.

The Parent Training Event also provided the attendees the opportunity to meet with various local community partners and gather valuable information. This year, the community partners in attendance included Women, Infants, and Children, Early Learning Resource Center (Region 4), DADS MATTER, PA CareerLink® Fayette County and UPMC for Kids.

In addition, parents enjoyed a catered luncheon and family engagement gift baskets were raffled. Congratulations to all the winners! We hope to see you all again next year!
